David A. Madsen is the president of Madsen Designs Inc. and an Authorized Autodesk Author. David is Faculty Emeritus of Drafting Technology and the Autodesk Premier Training Center at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon. David was an instructor and department Chairperson atClackamas Community College for nearly 30 years. In addition to community college experience, David was a Drafting Technology instructor at Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon. David is a former member of the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) Board of Directors, and was honored bythe ADDA with Director Emeritus status at the annual conference in 2005. David has extensive experience in mechanical drafting, architectural design and drafting, and building construction. David holds a Master of Education degree in Vocational Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree inIndustrial Education. David is the author of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and coauthor of Architectural AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop and its Applications, Architectural Drafting Using AutoCAD, AutoCAD and Its Applications: Basics, Advanced, and Comprehensive, AutoCAD Essentials, andother textbooks in the areas of architectural drafting, mechanical drafting, engineering drafting, civil drafting, architectural print reading, and mechanical printing reading. David P. Madsen is the president of Engineering Drafting and Design, Inc., the vice president of Madsen Designs Inc., anAuthorized Autodesk Author, and a SolidWorks Research Associate. They give definitions for stuff but lack concrete examples to improve understanding. It isn't until you try to do their end of the chapter questions that you realize how lacking this book is. You see something like "Describe Datum A" as a questions, flip through the chapter and realize they never explained how to describe a datum. The problem isn't your understanding of the material, but rather they never give an example of how to do this and the answer could be one of many answers that you could use. I have found youtube videos and online websites that teach this material better than this book.
Purchased this book for a class. I found it to be one of the better textbooks. The book was to the point, explaining everything clearly. The chapters continue to reintroduce subjects you learn at the very beginning. Building upon each subject at a steady pace.
Good book with a great approach to GDnT. I feel there should be a blueprint to the questions and tests for self study purpose.Some more intricate examples along the way could really show how GDnT works on more complex pieces of hardware.In a class room the instructor or professor will always be there to answer ones questions. Studying alone it is more difficult to punch through a problem and get a clear understanding sometimes.
