Travis Perret has been helping clients get back to an active lifestyle without chronic pain for over 20 years. He has helped thousands of people move better and feel better through the Pain-Free Life Program. Travis graduated from the University of Kansas and received his degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in pre-physical therapy. He was a decathlete on the University of Kansas track and field team. After graduating, he moved to San Diego, California to study exercise and posture in helping those who have chronic pain. In 2004, he moved back to the Midwest and opened Exercise Therapy of Kansas City. Travis lives in Overland Park, KS with his wife and two daughters. This book is incredible. I have been working with Travis to come back from a horrible bike wreck. I have lived pain-free for almost 2 years. I went for a tune up appointment with him and he said, "You haven't come in for an appointment for over 2 years." That's because he fixed me and I was pain-free or mostly pain-free after just 5 sessions with him. The book will give you a way to start in on the method for a low cost.I used to spend a lot of money on chiropractors. They told me that I would never get better and just have to live with the pain and come see them three times a week. I used to pay for monthly acupuncture. And the physcial therapy people had a few helpful exercises, and often they are focusing on the part that hurts instead of the part that can be causing the problem. Ie, my back pain was caused by a shoulder imbalance but I didn't know because my back hurt and not my shoulder. And the physical therapist only treated the back.This is a whole system that works together to get the whole body functioning. If you have damaged body parts it gets you in-balance as much as possible around those injuries. It helps figure out the root cause of problems and treat it. It teaches you to heal yourself. And the treatments last - because it trains your body to help itself. Get the book and figure out how to be truly pain-free - so much that you can go for years between sessions!
I finished reading this book last week and found it very easy to understand and hopeful for my many health issues. I didn't know where to start on the exercises so I called Travis on the phoneexplaining I couldn't make a trip to Kansas. I told him my challenges, he asked where I lived, and then told me of a facility just 11 miles from my home where they do the same work as he does. I am so pleased at his kindness, helpfulness, compassion and empathy. He really wants to help people and that trait can at times be rare these days. Get the book and get rid of you pain!
This book recommends the use of proper body alignment and stretching exercises to counteract chronic muscle and joint pain. I believe the basic information presented and the exercises given are useful for many people, but they won’t work for everyone. The book title is a little over the top, like many books that target chronic pain. Unfortunately, there are many causes of chronic pain and there is no single cure-all. I say that based on many years of personal experience. This book is worth a read if you are willing to commit to regular stretching exercises that may help ease muscle and joint pain.
This book is a great book to have in your library if you are dealing with chronic pain. Travis gives clear instructions with pictures to guide you. These are easy! You can also do in the privacy of your own home!I have been a nurse for over 30 years and my body has taken a beating! These exercises have relieved my back pain from all the lifting and moving patients I did through the years! And now that I have to do more paperwork and computer work the upper back, shoulders and hip exercises have kept me still in the workforce. But most important I can still get on the floor and play with my grandkids. I can even carry my grand babies with no problem at all. Thank You Travis!
I have been lucky enough to work with Travis one-on-one before I knew that he had written this book. In the short hour that I had with him, i was able to notice a considerable difference in how tall I felt after the session. My job is computer based so I am one of those people who have a lot of neck and shoulder pain issues. After the session, my pain did go away for a few days. Now, I have this book to help me make it go away for good. I encourage everyone reading this review to pick up a copy of this book and, if possible, call Travis to make an appointment to work with him in person. Its worth it to take care of you.
This book is a perfect guide to getting free from pain. The author clearly understands how posture and movement can be refined to shift function and pain. I have been doing the exercises for a week now and my pain level has diminished. I am so grateful for this book and will be buying one for everyone I love.
Pain Free Life by Travis Perret first presents an interesting background section that discusses interrelationships of body alignment, posture, and function, and describes how dysfunctional alignment and posture underlie chronic pain. He discusses how re-alignment of muscles to carry out their proper function can be achieved by regular exercises consisting of low-demand movements and corrective postures that re-educate the musculature to do their proper jobs. Travis gives a number of case histories as examples to illustrate these points, then provides a series of corrective exercises to deal with chronic pain. These are very useful, and help relieve mal-adjusted alignment and posture that create pain. However, it is also very important to work with an anatomical physiologist, like Travis, who has a good eye and sets up personalized exercises to address the specific issues of each individual. At this point it is the responsibility of each person to take 'ownership' of his/her body, become sensitive and responsive to its feedback, and regularly carry out the procedures that restore normal function.
Love this book! A straightforward approach to helping me find solutions to dealing with pain that has plagued me for years. If you commit yourself to doing the exercises daily, if not a couple of times per day, the pain will go away. I was skeptical, very skeptical, that simple exercises could work. I travel weekly for work all over the country and was unsure that this could be something that would help me deal with the pain of long flights, different hotel beds each night and lots of rental cars. Yet, I am now a firm believer and have directed my dad, friends and neighbors to give it a chance. Absolutely cannot recommend this book enough. ~ Chris R.
